Black Walnut Tree, near the leg. garden?
We have a black walnut tree growing near our vegetable garden. We put the tomatoes at the corner of the garden in front of the tree. But the garden does not like, if we do not lose hope. Is there a specific change in soil, which can do for this problem? And there are vegetables that would be better – we had carrots, radishes, lettuce, reaching or not grow.
In my experience painful chemical black walnut juglone is released after the point of the drip line. Many plants died in the process of discovery. I found a number of flowers and plants were tested water, but I'm not sure vegetables. From what I've read most of them suffer. I used a large number of container near the mines and perhaps raised beds and where can cool the soil should be your best bet. There is nothing worse than seeing the plants grow only to wither before they listen. I love trees, but do not like. By the way I also recommend keeping the nuts and trees and cleaning debris out of your garden and compost. All parts of the tree contain juglone in a degree or another. For information on garden plants not in my backyard, please send me e-mail.
